Join SweetSpot Marketing at the West Islip Summit!

ssm_summit

Following the success of its inaugural Summit of 2009, the West Islip Summit Coalition will host the Second Annual West Islip Summit, an event that brings to together all segments of the community to highlight the bright spots of West Islip, while discussing current day challenges. The Summit will be held Thursday, October 28, 6 p.m., at West Islip High School.

The evening’s festivities will include an overview of the work the Summit Coalition has done during the last 12 months, provide updates on future projects, and announce an outline of issues that need to be tackled with support from local elected officials. In addition, local residents will have an opportunity to meet local businesses at the Business Expo being held during the Summit, and enjoy performances from the West Islip High School Band and Orchestra.

“The Summit is another opportunity for West Islip residents to come together and celebrate our hometown,” says Steve Gellar, co-chair of the West Islip Summit Coalition. “Like any other community, we have things to celebrate and issues to tackle. While the Coalition has worked to tackle many issues, more work needs to be done and I encourage local residents to get involved.”

During the past year, Summit Coalition members held food drives to help fill the shelves of pantries at local churches, advocated for continued police patrols in local shopping centers, and worked with governmental agencies to clean up the creek that runs behind Beach Street Middle School and West Islip High School.

“The Summit Coalition has made some wonderful strides over the past year,” said Annmarie LaRosa, co-chair of the West Islip Summit Coalition. “We continue to seek volunteers to lend their expertise to the Coalition as part of our effort to help make West Islip the best it can be.”

6th Annual Joseph DiPalma Jr. Memorial Car Show “Blast From The Past” The Real Deal 2010

wicc_carshowad

Our 2010 Labor Day weekend, kissed by sunshine, warm temperatures and cool evening breezes, was perfect weather to hold the 6th Annual Joseph DiPalma Jr. Memorial “Blast from the Past” The Real Deal Car Show, co-hosted by the West Islip Chamber of Commerce and the Long Island Road Gents Car Club.

One of the biggest car shows on Long Island, the event drew crowds from neighboring towns. Held at West Islip’s Public Library Field, the show was dedicated to Joseph DiPalma, the former president of both hosting organizations, and one of the original founders.

With over 1,400 cars in attendance, we listened to live music from talented Doo-Wop groups, including young Kayla Starr, www.myspace.com/kaylastarr, often compared to Connie Francis, Brenda Lee and Patsy Cline. It was truly a “Blast From The Past” and the Real Deal Event, having traditional fare served at the food court, raffles drawn, and People Choice Trophies awarded.

SweetSpot Marketing’s principal, Belinda Rubino, photographed both the vehicle entries and the great fun had by spectators of all ages.

Networking With The Chamber, August 24, 2010 at Farrell's of Brooklyn

West Islip, August 25, 2010

West Islip’s Chamber of Commerce gave back to its members Thursday evening, August 24, by hosting a “Networking with the Chamber” 2010 Event, at Farrell’s of Brooklyn, on Higbie Lane.

A respectable number of people turned out from both West Islip businesses and neighboring community businesses. Guests took pleasure in sampling an assortment of hot appetizers and light beverages, served by the friendly and efficient Farrell’s servers. From demonstrations to door prizes, everyone appeared to have a great time making new connections.
Photographer Belinda Rubino of SweetSpotMarketing.net shot these candid, and not so candid, moments.
